Welcome to the State of Black Chicago Congress

THE MISSION of the State of Black Chicago Congress (SBCC) is to mobilize the community of African descent, in order to develop a plan of action that ameliorates conditions such as the crime and violence, inequitable distribution of educational resources and opportunities, joblessness, slow business development and opportunities, disappearing black media, inadequate youth engagement and leadership development, poor health, and the public’s concern over the involvement of the Black Church.

Bobbie L. Steele

Bobbie Steele photo

Bobbie L. Steele is a community activist, teacher and mother. In 1985, she was elected to the Cook County Board of Commissioners with an overwhelming victory. In 2006 she was elected President of Cook County Board of Commissioners.

Steele is now retired but serves as an active member of three civic boards: Illinois Counties Board of Directors, Illinois Women in Leadership Board of Directors and Lawndale Christian Development Board of Directors.
